Who is the MSI installer for:

Dixa provides two Windows installers (MSI) for IT administrators to install Dixa for multiple Windows users or machines. The packages are recommended for customers who need to deploy Dixa on hundreds or thousands of machines. If you don't need to deploy Dixa at large scale, please use the installer found on https://dixa.com/downloads/desktop

The two MSI packages are fundamentally different, using different deployment and update mechanisms. We recommend reading the following carefully before using either of them.

MSI per user installer deployment (option 1)

This MSI for per-user deployment adds Dixa installer machine-wide, rather than individually Dixa for Windows. Dixa installer will only add Dixa for Windows if it was never installed for the user currently logged into the machine.

Who is this MSI for
The MSI installer is best for companies where employees work from their own machine and want Dixa update automatically.

What to consider

  • Dixa will be installed in the %LOCALAPPDATA% folder
  • Every user maintains their own version of Dixa
  • Automatic updates are downloaded and installed for each user
  • No need for maintenance - Dixa will keep itself up-to-date and secure
  • Dixa will be installed upon user login

Download and install

  1. Download the MSI per-user deployment installer
  2. Run the installer
  3. Dixa icon will appear on the Desktop and Start Menu

MSI per machine-wide installation (option 2)

The MSI for single installation deployment installs Dixa application machine-wide to Program Files folder. It is multi-client-capable, meaning that it can be used by multiple users on one machine, keeping their profiles separately inside %ROAMINGAPPDATA%. Dixa will not receive automatic updates using this method.

Who is this MSI for
This method is best suited to companies where multiple employees use the same machine, e.g. terminal servers, and/or need to control which version of Dixa they use.

What to consider

  • Only 64-bit is supported
  • Dixa is installed in the program files folder
  • Auto-updater is disabled (IT-maintenance is required to keep Dixa up to date and secure)
  • Profile data is saved in %APPDATA%/roaming/Dixa
  • Every user will have the same version
  • Only a single installation on a machine means smaller hard drive footprint at scale

Download and install

  1. Download the MSI machine-wide deployment installer
  2. Run the installer
  3. Dixa icon will appear on the Desktop and Start Menu
